Paperless billing and online contracts could help to solve a number of environmental issues. This type of online contracting paperless billing, however, does come with some challenges.

While it would be better for the environment to have every company automatically push out online contracts and paperless billing, we are not currently able to completely convert over from traditional paper contracts which can be a wasteful practice for the environment and pulp resources. Here are some of the biggest challenges that face paperless billing and online contracts:

    .

    Not everyone is Tech-savvy

There are still a number of seniors that would prefer to have a paper bill so that they can have a copy of the bill on file. Many seniors often prefer the idea of a paper contract as well for keeping a contract with them at all times.

The solution: Offer special training to seniors. This can be organized within the communities. They are less tech-savvy and need instructors that patiently guide them through this new digital world.

    .

    The Internet Infrastructure

There are still some areas of the world where reliable Internet access can be quite spotty. Utilities and individuals who require access here will often need internet infrastructure improvements before they can start opting for paperless billing, smart contracts, and more.

The solution: Create a sustainable internet infrastructure that is accessible to everyone. The goal can be reached at a government level since they provide licenses In other words: FREE WIFI EVERYWHERE!

    .

    Security Updates may be required

Smart contracts through the use of blockchain technology could represent a better future for paperless billing, data storage, and more. Until more providers start using this type of technology, we could be faced with security issues for legal contracts, bills, and more.

The solution: Learn new technologies and get to know their strengths and shortcomings by testing them.

Until we start to see changes in technology, a willingness to use these types of paper billing items, and an improvement in Internet infrastructure, it could be some time before we start to see more people opting for online contracts and paperless billing. Online billing and contracts could represent a bright future in eco-friendly technology. As technology continues to change however we may begin to see more trust in these services.

I agree that one of the big challenges is access to the internet for everyone. In my country, one company started the online billing without taking into consideration that not everyone has access to the internet to download the bill and that the majority of the population which is elderly people don’t really understand much about computers. As a result, many people when to the local branch to pay their bills instead. What this caused what long lines of people waiting for their turn. Companies have to think this through along with the government who facilitates the telecommunication infrastructure.
